Joe Scarborough, a former Trump campaign aide and a Trump surrogate, told CNN that while he didn’t agree with the Republican nominee, he has not been “surprised by the reaction” to the controversy over his comments.
“I’ve never heard anything like it in my lifetime, I don’t think that we’ve ever had a controversy like this, but I guess the one thing I know is that the public is getting it,” he said.
“It’s getting to be very clear what we believe, what our values are, what we’re about.
We’ve never, in our lifetimes, had a situation like this.
So, I’ve got to say, we’ve got a lot of folks out there that are upset, I mean, they’re frustrated, and we have to move on from this, and I’m sure that they will do the same.”
So, I think we’re going to have to sit down and try to figure out a way to move forward,” he added.”
We’ve had to be on defense because there are some things that we don’t like about him.
There are some people who have criticized him for comments about Mexicans, women, and so on, that we disagree with.
“But I think in this case, I do think it’s a different situation, because he’s doing this to distract us from his own record, and to distract from his campaign, and it’s been really frustrating for us, and he needs to go on defense, and that’s the best thing we can do,” he concluded.
