A New Jersey woman is claiming that she was booted from the Trump White House because she wore chiffones.
The White House is facing criticism after it came to light that former president Donald Trump was wearing chimes during the inauguration ceremony.
The woman, who has requested anonymity, told The Associated Press that she wanted to wear chiffone for her graduation from the United States Naval Academy in Newport News, Virginia, and had received a message from the president.
She says she got the message, “We are going to fire you.”
The woman said she told the president, “I am wearing chimneys, you know, my mom is in the Navy, my dad is in Vietnam,” before the message was rescinded.
The Associated Press is not naming the woman because she was not authorized to speak publicly.
White House spokesman Josh Earnest said Tuesday the message did not represent the White Houses policy.
“The White Houses policies reflect a range of values that are at the heart of the President’s work,” Earnest wrote in an email.
The message is not unusual, according to the AP.
White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said in December that the administration does not allow women to wear head coverings.
“We are in the process of revamping our policies to reflect these changes,” Sanders said.
The Trump administration is also under fire for the president’s recent decision to pull out of the Paris climate agreement.
The president, who announced his decision to exit the agreement on Thursday, has said the United Kingdom, France and Germany have been “getting away with murder” in failing to meet their commitments.
The United States has pledged to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 26 to 28 percent below 2005 levels by 2025.
The New York Times reported Tuesday that Trump met with top European leaders in the White Chamber of Commerce in Washington, D.C., in April to discuss the issue.
White house press secretary Sean Spicer said on Tuesday that there was “no discussion” about the decision to withdraw from the Paris agreement.
Trump, who had called climate change a hoax created by China, has made no secret of his disdain for China.
